Utica UB90 High Efficiency Boiler
If your boiler looks like the one in the photo then chances are that you may experience ignitor problems with this boiler. Look to see if you have the grey draft inducer motor or the black one which is also a problem with the Utica boiler model UB90’s. The grey draft inducers can cause excessive vibration causing too much noise. The factory will send you a kit to absorb the vibration. If you have a black draft inducer then you do not have to worry about this problem ecause the black assemblies haev the correct shock absorbers on them. This is avery large and long ignitor or igniter. It is important that you use the new replacement ignitor because the old style had issues and it has been redesigned.
These ignitors are also used in other furnace and boiler equipment manufacturers. Here is a picture of the part. The old one is on the top while the revised unit is on the bottom of the page. The igniter for the 90 series boilers has been redesigned to provide improved life expectancy. The change
involved relocation of the mounting bracket thereby reducing the insertion depth. This allows the igniter to
operate at lower temperatures while achieving the same flame signal. The bracket is offset from the end of
the igniter by 1”. Photo 1 depicts the original style igniter. Photo 2 is the newly redesigned igniter. The new
igniter is a direct replacement and no modification or re-wiring is needed.
