Compressor will not start has to be the biggest complaint we here when summer time rolls around. It is usually 9 times out of 10 the terminal wires on the compressor. If you pull off the compressor terminal cap on the compressor just do a visual check and see if the terminals are burnt up. If they are you will find that you will need a “terminal connector kit” to get it rolling again.

A Few tips for taking care of your air conditoner this summer. It is extemely important to keep the filter clean which insures proper air flow. When your air flow is restrcted it causes the freon or refigerant to come back to the compressor in a liquid state. This is the number one cause of compressor failure. Depending on the severity of the liquid it may cause bearing failure byu washing out the bearing oil with refigeratnt or it will at the very least cause the rings to damage by “wash out”. This is when the liwuid washes away the oil that is used to lubricate the compressor moving parts.
When you start your air conditioner for the first time you may want to insure that you have enough freon in it AS SOON as you start it. Let the unit run for several minutes and then feel the larger of the 2 copper lines that are going to the unit outside. There may be some black insulation on the line. Simply move it back and grab the copper line with your hand. It should be cold, as in “beer can cold”. The tempreture of a can of beer when you pull it out of a cooler full of ice on a hot summer day. If it is not then you need to get some pressure readings off the unit. It may very well be low on freon. Freon still leaks out in the winter time. In fact in some cases I have seen service valves on ac units only leak when the temp outside is below freezing due to the rubber o rings swelling and causing the leak. There is a bulletin on this for particular Goodman AC units. Low freon can and will cause comporessor damage if not taken care of. There are many signs to look for and many things that can go wrong woth your ac over the winter. If you think something is not right when you turn on your ac for the first time then chances are your right.
